De westkust van Mauritius ligt verscholen achter de bergrug, die de regen en zuidoostenwind tegenhoudt en er zijn mooie brede zandstranden met bovendien aan deze kant van het eiland de sunset! Aan de noordkust vindt u Grand Baie, een gezellige havenplaats en ook kleinere baaien met zandstranden. Aan de oost- en zuidkust van Mauritius worden stranden afgewisseld met kleine baaien en kliffen. Het is hier iets rustiger, met slechts kleine dorpjes, dan in het noorden en westen van het eiland.
